Kate Silverton: 'thrilled' at birth of baby

BBC newsreader Kate Silverton has given birth to a baby girl.

She and her husband Mike Heron welcomed Clemency Florence Rose late last night, initially teasing on Twitter "Remember remember the 5th November".

Revealing the full news on her Twitter page, Silverton said: "I became a mummy yesterday. Mike and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our daughter Clemency Florence Rose. She is utterly divine.

"She was born yesterday at 14.40 weighing 8lb 9 oz after a natural delivery - am simply ecstatic! Huge thanks to the NHS staff at Queen Charlotte's hospital especially leading midwife Jenny Smith and also Dr Gowri Motha who helped ensure I had a natural (and as gentle!) a birth as possible."

Silverton, who confirmed her pregnancy back in May, told the Sunday Mirror that Clemency has "big lips and big feet like her mummy".
