Victoria College, Belfast tonight secured the remaining place in the All Island School Choir of the Year competition, to be screened live on RTÉ One television on Sunday next, November 13, at 6:30pm.
Victoria won through the Regional Heat at the Braid Theatre Ballymena where the other choirs were from Mount Lourdes Grammar School, Fermanagh; Saint Mary's College, Derry; Saint Louise's College Belfast and the St Louis Grammar School Ballymena.
The final of the competition will take place at the Millennium Forum in Derry on Sunday next, November 13. It will feature an All-Boys choir from De La Salle College, Waterford, a mixed choir from Wesley College, Ballinteer and All-Girls choirs from Saint Joseph's Navan and Victoria College Belfast.
Forty-six choirs entered this year's competition.
In May the 2010 winners, Presentation College, Ballyphehane and the 2009 winners, Methodist College, Belfast sang for Britain's Queen Elizabeth II at a concert in Dublin. They were the only amateur participants in the event. The choirs competition is organised by CoOperation Ireland in association with RTÉ.
The series is presented by Anne Cassin and the executive producer is Tommie Gorman.
