Charles 'Bubba' Smith died of acute drug intoxication and other conditions according to the LA County coroner’s office. The Police Academy star and former NFL star died on Aug 3 at the age of 66.
Autopsy results showed that the 6 foot 7 inch Smith had high levels of the weight-loss drug phentermine in his system. He also had heart disease, an enlarged heart and up to 75% blockage of some blood vessels.
Smith was an NFL football star for Baltimore Colts from 1967 after being the All-America pick in 1966.
He spent five seasons with the Baltimore Colts, where he played on the 1971 Super Bowl team, and two seasons each with Oakland and Houston.
After a career-ending injury he moved into acting where his memorable role was as the soft-spoken Officer Moses High-tower in the Police Academy series.
