Steve Carell is to star in Dogs of Babel, the new film from Once and Bachelors Walk director John Carney.
Deadline.com reports that the film is based on the Carolyn Parkhurst novel of the same name and tells the story of a linguistics professor who arrives home to find his wife dead and the family dog the only witness.
As he grieves, the professor becomes convinced he can teach the dog how to talk and find out how his wife died.
Carney will also produce the film through his company, Carousel Productions.
