A tearful Lindsay Lohan was led away from a Los Angeles court yesterday in handcuffs after a judge revoked her probation.

The actress was taken into custody and escorted from a hearing after Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner revoked her probation because she had not completed her community service assignment at a women's shelter.

"There has been violation after violation," Sautner said.

She added: "Probation is a gift as I see it. There is something called looking a gift horse in the mouth."

She noted that Lindsay had been a no-show at the women's centre nine times and had only managed to do around a day-and-a-half there.

Bail was set at $100,000, and Lohan's spokesman Steve Honig said it was immediately posted. It is believed however, that Lohan has since been released.

"We're dealing with someone on probation," said Lohan's lawyer, Shawn Holley. "Most people on probation don't always do things perfectly."
