The judges on The X Factor USA – Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, LA Reid and Nicole Scherzinger – have chosen their finalists for the live shows, with 17, and not the expected 16, acts making it through.

After initially deciding she would not go through to the live shows, the girls' mentor, Simon Cowell, travelled to Florida teenager Melanie Amaro's home to invite her back to the competition.
