With the second series of Boardwalk Empire just begun, US network HBO has ordered a third season of the Prohibition drama.
Announcing the third season, HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo said: "Following a triumphant first season, I was eager to see what Terry Winter [creator], Martin Scorsese [executive producer] and the rest of their stellar team had in store, and they continue to surpass our highest expectations."
"The response from the media and our viewers has been extremely gratifying," he added.
The first series of Boardwalk Empire won eight Emmy Awards last month.
