Tom Cruise's One Shot co-star Rosamund Pike has called Lee Child's series of Jack Reacher novels, upon which the Christopher McQuarrie’s film adaptation is based, "electrifying".

Speaking to Digital Spy about Child’s books, she said: "They're really electrifying. He's a great character, Jack Reacher. He's a really modern hero."

When asked how the actress, who will play Helen Rodin in the film, broke the ice with Cruise, Pike responded: "There's no ice-breaking necessary. He is warm...he's totally giving, totally engaged and he's just the type of actor you want to work with.

"He plays with you, he's willing to try anything, riff on the words and improvise. It was like playing tennis with a top tennis player and feeling that your game was being improved by the process."

One Shot, which also co-stars Robert Duvall, is due to open in cinemas in 2013.
