The Derek Mooney Show is determined to beat American talk show host Jay Leno and his Guinness World Record for gathering the largest number of leprechauns in one place.
On St Patrick’s Day earlier this year the US chat show host arranged a special event on the set of his NBC show The Tonight Show with Jay Leno whereby 224 leprechauns gathered to make history.
Mooney told RTÉ TEN that, with the help of his RTÉ Radio 1 listeners, he has big plans to make their reign a very short one:
"We are determined to get one up on Jay Leno. We are going for 300 or more Leprechauns on one place. He only managed to get 224 leprechauns in one place, we’ve an entire nation and we’re going to take him on!"
Derek Mooney takes the first step to break Leno's leprechaun Guinness World Record!
He added: "Listeners will be asked to register online on the Mooney website [ www.rte.ie/radio/mooneygoeswild/], giving their details. We’ll be talking about it all week on the show.
"Then on November 17 they will be asked to assemble at the front of the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin, dressed as leprechauns and the rules clearly state they must all stand in one place for a minimum of ten minutes and be counted.
"So stand up and be counted for Ireland, for Ireland’s leprechauns - they’re a dying breed!"
