Britney Spears has been asked to apologise for “promoting gun violence” in her new video.
The controversial singer filmed the clip for Criminal, her latest single, in London. In a Pulp Fiction style scenario the video shows Spears and her boyfriend, Jason Trawick, robbing a shop and holding the staff at gun point.
The video incurred the wrath of a number of local politicians who said the video was especially inappropriate following the recent riots.
Hackney Council told London Tonight: "In this case we did not agree that a replica gun could be used at Stoke Newington Town Hall and we are disappointed... We will be raising this matter with the production company."
Asked if she thought the council was overreacting, Hackney MP Diane Abbott insisted: "It is only a music video but it's images like this, with popstars glamorising gangs, which means that some young people... get drawn in,” said Abbott. “Britney should really know better."
