James Corden has revealed that Matt Smith is the "main reason" he returned to Doctor Who.

The Gavin & Stacey star, who first appeared in the sci-fi series last year, reprises his role as Craig Owen in tonight's episode of the show.

Corden spoke to TV Buzz about his respect for the Time Lord actor, saying: "I'm really taken by him, he is the main reason I went back to Doctor Who."

In an interview with the Radio Times earlier this week, Corden admitted that he did not see foresee a return to the show.

He said: "When I left last time, I thought it was a great experience. But it never crossed my mind that I would come back, because most people don't."

In tonight's episode of the show, the Doctor, Craig and his baby Alfie come face-to-face with a squad of Cybermen.

The penultimate episode of the series, Closing Time, airs tonight at 7.10pm on BBC One.
