In his autobiography May I Have Your Attention, Please?, James Corden admitted how he “definitely wanted more” than just friendship with Lily Allen.

The Gavin & Stacey actor explained how he first met the “confident, funny and intelligent," singer at the premiere of The History Boys six years ago.

Speaking about how they first swapped words Corden wrote: "We got talking at the party after the film and she asked me for my phone number, which was a bit embarrassing as I was standing with my girlfriend at the time."

He added: "I hadn't seen Lily since when I got a call asking if I'd go on her chatshow to promote the new series of Gavin & Stacey. When I spoke to the researcher beforehand he said the idea for the show was to find out how compatible Lily and I would be."

James Corden revealed that he was left heartbroken when he realised that he was only ever have a friendship with Lily Allen.

The funnyman continued to explain how he pursued the It’s Not Fair singing stating that he "blatantly" and "publicly" flirted with Allen when he was interviewed on her chat show. He pitched in that he even went as far as buying her a laminator as joke to try and impress her, as she used one back when she was on work experience.

Corden eventually confessed that he was heartbroken when Allen didn't reciprocate the feelings he had for her writing: "I guess we were friends but, for my part, I definitely wanted more than that. The last time I went to her place was when the reality dawned on me."
