Brad Pitt has gone one step further to clarify the comments he made about his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston in response to negative media coverage.

The Moneyball actor felt the need to clarify remarks he made about Aniston after he was quoted recently saying that he wasn’t living an “interesting” life during their marriage.

In an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today Show which will air in the US later today, Pitt once again spoke out in support of Aniston, describing her as a "dear friend".

He said: "I don't want [people] to say anything bad like that about Jen. She's a dear friend of mine.

"All I know is that my point was, the best thing I'd done as a father is be sure that my kids have a good mother.

"That's all I was, or am, trying to say. It has no reference to the past. And I think it's a shame that I can't say something nice about Angie without Jen being dragged in. You know, she doesn't deserve it."

Aniston was, according to US Weekly, 'annoyed' by Pitt's initial comments about their relationship, finding them "rude and inappropriate".
