Katherine Kelly is set to get her own Coronation Street special show on ITV.

The actress, who has played Becky McDonald in the soap since 2006, will be leaving Weatherfield at the end of the year and bosses want to devote a special show to her character.

According to the Daily Star, the programme will chronicle Becky’s life from when she arrived on the cobbles and will contain an interview with Katherine Kelly.

Kelly previously stated that she would like to make a return to the soap when her step-daughter Amy is grown-up.

She said: "You never know with her - she might be back at some point.

"Perhaps she'll tip up again when her stepdaughter, Amy, is a wild and crazy 18-year-old who needs someone to sort her out!

"The first thing I said to Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson was, 'Please don't kill me off!'

"There are so many ups and downs and developments still to come, but I'd hate to see the end of Becky for good, I really would. I've watched the show all my life, and as a viewer, I wouldn't like that."
