Chesney is said to be left devestated after a death

One of Coronation Street’s much-loved characters is set to be left devastated after a death occurs on the cobbles.

Warning! Spoiler Alert!

Chesney Brown, who is played by Sam Aston, is due to lose one of his most loyal companions, his dog Schmeichel.

In scenes that will air over the next few weeks, Chesney will be left distraught after Schmeichel succumbs to an illness and Chesney is forced have him put down.

The Great Dane made his Corrie debut in 2003, however four different dogs have taken on the role since.

A source told The Sunday Mirror: "It will be heartbreaking for Chesney, and for viewers.

"But bosses think the time is right for Schmeichel to leave the show."

It is likely the decision has come to prepare for the birth of Chesney’s baby with girlfriend Katy Armstrong.
