It was ladies night at the MTV Video Music Awards last night with both Adele and Katy Perry taking home three Moonmen each, with Perry winning the top gong, Video of the Year.

Perry, who arrived at the awards ceremony on the arm of her husband Russell Brand, also took home a Moonman for Best Collaboration and Best Special Effects for E.T. featuring Kanye West. Brand paid tribute to the late Amy Winehouse during the ceremony alongside Tony Bennett and Bruno Mars.

Lady GaGa may have nabbed the top spot for Best Female Video, but she showed up at the ceremony held at the Kodak Theatre in LA decked out in drag as her alter ego ‘Joe Calderone’. After opening the show in the usual GaGa jaw-dropping style the You and I singer also picked the gong for the newest VMA category, Best Video with a Message.
