The Inbetweeners Movie earned over £2.5 million on its first day of previews in the UK.

Toy Story 3, one of the UK's top earning preview films, earned an average of £2.4 million per day over four days of previews last year.

The Inbetweeners Movie was screened in 409 cinemas yesterday and earned a total of £2.584 million. This already puts The Inbetweeners Movie ahead of the combined previews and opening weekend totals of last year's biggest UK production, Streetdance 3D.

The film's budget was just £3.5 million, meaning that it is already well on track toward being extremely profitable.

By comparison, The King's Speech earned just £227,000 in its UK previews in January.

In Screen International, producer Chris Young said: “We are all delighted by the response to Jay, Neil, Simon and Will’s summer holiday. We’ve been so excited for people to see the boys on the big screen and we are thrilled that the UK feels the same!”

Film 4's Tessa Ross added: “We’re incredibly proud of the team behind the film and really thrilled with the phenomenal results so far. How wonderful that a loved Channel 4 comedy show should become a celebrated film.”
