Reeve Carney, the star of Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark on Broadway, has been cast as Jeff Buckley in a new Jake Scott-directed film about the late singer's life.
Deadline.com, which broke the story, says that Carney will sing all the songs in the as-yet-untitled movie himself, with production set to begin in November.
Scott's film is one of three about Buckley's life: Dan Algrant's Greetings from Tim Buckley stars Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley and tells the story of Buckley's performance at a tribute concert to his late father Tim in 1991, while Brendan Fletcher's A Pure Drop is based on the book A Pure Drop: The Life of Jeff Buckley by Jeff Apter.
In casting Carney for his film, Scott said the actor had "the perfect combination of musical prodigy, impish charm, innate intelligence and sensitivity to play Jeff".
