Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman has spoken about her upset at news of the show coming to an end next year.
Creator Marc Cherry confirmed last weekend that the hugely popular US comedy-drama will end after its eighth season in 2012.
Meanwhile, Felicity Huffman - who plays Lynette Scavo - told TV Line: "I did that thing where when you hear big news, you kind of distance yourself from it. I went home . . . and I cried at the kitchen table.
"I think it's going to be lovely to have nine months to appreciate something that's ending. When you know that something is finite, you taste it more.
"I think it changed the landscape of television in terms of strong women, late 30s into their 40s, [and demonstrating that] female characters are not ancillary, not just on someone's arm," she added.
The final season of Desperate Housewives will premiere in the US in September and later in the new TV season on RTÉ Two.
