Grease actress Annette Charles dies

Grease actress Annette Charles has passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 63.

The American actress, who played the character of racy dancer Cha Cha DiGregorio in the 1978 film, died in her home on Tuesday night due to complications from cancer, TMZ reports.

A member of the Charles family told the website: "Annette had recently started having difficulty breathing... and when she went to the doctor she learned that she had a cancerous tumour in one of her lungs."

A full statement regarding Charles's death will be released within the next 24 hours.

Charles is best known for her appearance in Grease alongside John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, but she also played roles in several TV shows including The Bionic Woman, The Flying Nun, Gunsmoke, Mod Squad and Bonanza.

After her successful career in acting, Charles later became a speech professor and taught at the California State University in Northridge.
