Forest Whitaker has recalled his days on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior as being really tough as he sought to immerse himself in the dark procedural show.
As the Criminal Minds spin-off continues on RTÉ Two on Monday nights, the Oscar winner reflected on a period of great intensity in his career as he worked on the role of BAU team leader Sam Cooper.
“It's been really tough in the beginning to maybe do the kind of work I need to do for me to be satisfied with myself,” he admitted.
“I was learning what the process is of learning lines that intensely and trying to create a character, you know, that way. That was tough, and I think I started to figure it out towards the latter episodes.
“I think I've always been trying to understand people. I think I've been doing the kind of behavioural analysing since I've been working even as an artist, first as a kid.
“But every character I play, I'm trying to understand why they behave this way, why they eat this way, why they walk this way, what they feel, what they think, what [they] experience, what clothes they wear, what shoes they wear, why they wear this kind of sock, you know. I've been doing that for 30 years.”
