Coronation Street star Samia Smith has confirmed that she will be staying at the soap for at least another year.
The actress told the Manchester Evening News that she recently landed a new deal with the show and is excited for what the future holds for her character Maria Connor.
Speaking about forthcoming storylines for Maria, Smith said: "I've just signed up for another year, which is exciting. I think there's going to be lots of drama for her.
The star also hinted at further developments for her character saying, "You'll have watch out for her love life."
In February of this year, Smith commented that she had no plans to leave the soap and was happy with the challenging storylines that have been written for her.
She said at the time: "I don't take it for granted at all… When I see dramas on the telly that I really enjoy watching I have a moment where I think, 'Oh that could be nice', but Corrie's been brilliant and I can't complain at all with the storylines I've been given. It's every actor's dream to be given challenging stories so I'm happy there."
