The son of American actor Nicolas Cage has checked into a rehabilitation facility just days after his arrest for domestic violence.

Weston Cage was taken into custody on Wednesday on charges of domestic violence, and allegedly had to be treated in hospital for severe cuts.

Cage's representative Jerry Digney has confirmed that the 21-year-old has now entered a rehab clinic, where he will remain for at least 30 days.

"Many fine opportunities await such a talented young man, including negotiations with a major production company utilising his exceptional martial arts and acting skills," Digney told E! Online.

"Weston is getting the help and support that he needs during this time . . . We are all hoping that he will be able to do it respectfully, in peace."

"I am getting myself together, so I'm sorry about being mislabelled by people who don't know me, or that I come from a long line of creative and successful artists," Cage added, in reference to claims that he envies his wife's singing career.

Earlier this month, both Cage and his wife Nikki Williams were arrested on domestic violence charges following a reported late-night incident.
