Tom Cruise has agreed a deal to play author Lee Child's hero Jack Reacher in an adaptation of the bestseller One Shot.
Deadline.com, which broke the story, says that the film is due to go into production in the autumn, with The Usual Suspects writer Christopher McQuarrie directing.
McQuarrie previously worked with Cruise on Valkyrie and Cruise's upcoming Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.
In One Shot former military police officer Reacher investigates the fatal shootings of five people and discovers nothing is as it seems.
