Nadine Coyle has spoken to Billboard about the Girls Aloud reunion and her plans to crack America.
The Derry native and Girls Aloud singer is set to release a revamped, re-issue of her debut album, Insatiable, later this year. She has said that the entire thing is a challenge and reminds her of the early Popstars: The Rivals days.
"It's a challenge! You've got to come, you've got to work hard. I remember the days beginning at 16, 17 years old in Girls Aloud. Nobody knew us, nobody cared. We'd do university shows and people threw beers cans at us. All sorts of crazy things! We had to work really hard to get where we did"
With regards her plans for America, she continues "that's where I'm at now. That grind. That mentality of, 'Yeah, let's do it. Let's work hard. What can we do? What can we achieve?' I love that part of it." But explains that the music industry has changed since her beginnings.
She cites Christina Aguilera, Lykke Li and even Marilyn Monroe as her influences for the US release, which will include a modern cover of Diamond's are a girl's best friend.
We previously reported that Coyle was seeking career advice from Mel B, who has found a comfortable spot in the American entertainment industry for herself. However, unlike the Spice Girls, her band have "always been separate", she once said, with Cheryl, Kimberly and Nicola spending a lot of time together recently.
Just like the monumental Spice Girls reunion, Coyle talked about her band's tenth anniversary, "we're thinking 'oh my gosh, we've been together ten years, we should do this, we should do that' but at the minute there's nothing officially decided". It has been previously speculated that the band are booked to start recording together again in January.
She finished by saying that "ten years of all that stuff, it would be a shame to let it pass!".
