Glee’s creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed reports that Lea Michele and Chris Colfer will be leaving alongside Cory Monteith at the end of the next season.

Murphy, who is the head honcho at the all singing and dancing show, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that while Michele who plays Rachel, Colfer who plays Kurt and Monteith who plays Finn, will return to the show at the start of the next season, once they graduate from McKinley High they won’t be back.

Murphy said; "We made that decision and I involved Chris and Lea and they thought that was a good idea. They both trust the writing and trust me and felt that it would be great to have an open and closed experience for them to go out while they were on top."

Murphy is not worried by their departures, insisting that it is necessary for the integrity of the show; "You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticise you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year.”

Michele took to her personal Twitter later on today to thank her Glee fans and to explain she is content to leave, posting "We always knew we'd graduate in real time. It's all part of the plan and it's all good! It's going to make Season 3 amazing!!!"

"To Gleeks everywhere, you're in my heart now and forever. Love u all!!! This is just the beginning!!"

Do you think Glee will still be as could once Rachel, Finn and Kurt are gone?
