US Open champion Rory McIlroy’s long-term girlfriend Holly Sweeney has decided to stay at home when her boyfriend plays the British Open, because she fears she might bring him bad luck.
The 20-year-old chose not to accompany McIlroy for the US Open, which proved a good decision as he went on to triumph in the whole competition.
McIlroy will be hoping to replicate his win this week at the British Open, which starts tomorrow.
Writing on her Twitter account, Sweeney told a pal: “staying at home this week…worked well last time.”
McIlroy and Sweeney broke up just before Christmas but got back together after a short time apart.
