Irish milliner Philip Treacy has spoken out again about the hat he designed for Princess Beatrice to wear to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Treacy, who created hats for more than 30 guests at the royal wedding, has admitted that he felt upset and hurt for the young royal and that he feels she was a victim of cyber bullying by fashion bloggers.

While it has been likened to everything from an octopus to a pretzel, the whacky hat sold on Ebay for a whopping £81,100.01, with the proceeds going to charities Unicef and Children in Crisis.

Speaking to the Observer, he said: “She is only 22 and there was a little bit of bullying going on. I didn't give a f*** about 140,000 bloggers. In the future, we'll look back and think she looked wild.”

The Galway man thought Beatrice looked like a "beautiful, exotic, Victorian doll."

“Princess Beatrice is Queen Victoria's great, great, great, great granddaughter and looks like Queen Victoria,” he said.

“I thought I was making a hat with a bow on it.”

When asked what he thought of the queen referring to hats as part of her uniform, he replied:

“When you meet the Queen, you are not supposed to ask questions, but I thought what the hell. So I looked her in the eye and said ‘Ma'am, do you enjoy wearing hats?’ And she stood back and said: ‘It is part of the uniform’.”
