It has been reported that Ted Danson will replace Laurence Fishburne on the next season of CSI.

According to Entertainment Weekly the Emmy award-winner will play the CSI supervisor for the late night shift in the popular police procedural drama. It was also reported that CBS offered the leading role to a number of actors including John Lithgow, Tony Shaloub and Robin Williams. Fishburne left the series in May when CBS decided not to renew his contract following a slump in ratings.

Danson, who made his name as the barman on Cheers, has enjoyed more small screen success in recent years, including his tongue-in-cheek portrayal of himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm and a thrice Emmy-nominated turn on Damages. The veteran actor will continue as a series regular on Bored to Death.
