Rupert Grint has praised the level of fan support for the Harry Potter films.

The actor, who plays the character of Ron Weasley in the films, told Digital Spy at the world premiere of Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in London last night that he had little expectations when he first signed up for the role.

Grint said: "I had no expectations, really. I never would have imagined we'd be here 10 years down the line with all these people.

"It's kind of crazy, really, when you think about it like that. It's just kind of grown from the first film."

The actor added that he appreciated the fans and the buzz surrounding the films, saying: "It's so nice to see all the support and excitement around it still."

Rupert spent hours on the red carpet talking to fans last night

Thousands of fans braving wet weather to camp out beside the red carpet ahead of last night's premiere of the final instalment of the film franchise.

Both Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square were transformed into Potter style worlds for the event, with a road between the two sites becoming Diagon Alley, the fictional street where fledgling wizards buy their magical wares.
