Charlize Theron has revealed that marriage is not important to her.
The Oscar-winning actress discussed her views on marriage - which she described as a "divine right" for gay and straight people - during an appearance on Piers Morgan Tonight.
She told the TV host: "I'll be the first to say, here on your show, marriage - before I felt this way about [marriage equality] - was never something that was important to me. I don't know the exact reason for that.
"Some would say because I came from a very troubled marriage. My parents did not have a good marriage, but I don't think it's that."
Theron went on to explain that although she enjoys being in stable relationships, she does not see herself wedding in the future.
She explained: "I really want for myself a long-term relationship, and I have been in long-term relationships... That's the kind of union that I want.
"The actual ceremony is not something that is important to me - but I see the importance for other people."
Theron previously was in a relationship with Irish actor Stuart Townsend for nine years before they split in 2010.
