The red-and-black jacket that Michael Jackson wore during his Thriller video has been sold at auction for $1.8 million.
The sparkly jacket was estimated to raise somewhere between $200,000 and $400,000 but it exceeded all expectations.
Jackson signed the jacket and gave it as a gift to his long-time costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush.
Businessman Michael Verret won the historic piece and plans to take it on a tour of childrens’ hospitals across America.
Part of the proceeds from the purchase will go toward the Shambala Preserve, home to Jackson's two Bengal tigers, Thriller and Sabu.
Other memorabilia from the King of Pop that was auctioned off included the fedora from his Bad Tour, a handwritten note to Elizabeth Taylor and a signed pillowcase.
Paul McCartney's bass guitar sold for $14,080, the cape Ringo Starr wore in the movie Help! Raised $37,500 and Sinatra's 1986 Jaguar went to a lucky bidder for the price of $19,000.
