Girls Aloud bandmate Nadine Coyle has denied reports that she was overheard calling Cheryl Cole "a failure".

According to Heat, the singer who is now based in the States had made the comments while out for pre-birthday drinks in a New York bar last week.

Coyle was alleged to have said: "I have more talent in my little finger. Why would I be jealous of a failure?"

"Cheryl got way too big for her boots. She thought she could walk on water and had to learn the hard way that things don't always work out as planned. People don't know the real Cheryl like I do."

The source added: "Nadine was being quite hard and really letting rip about her feelings. As the conversation turned towards Cheryl's recent sacking, Nadine said it was for the best and that Cheryl would have been 'out of her depth on the US 'X Factor'."

However, responding to the allegations on Twitter, Coyle wrote: "Not true. Stop using me as the scapegoat for lack of stories."

Cole's agent also doubted the truth of the story, quipping on Twitter: "Well now Cheryl has no friends that should mean no more stories from 'pals' in press."
