Kris Smith has admitted that busy work schedules have pushed him and partner Dannii Minogue apart.
The couple were rumoured to have broken up last month, but they denied any reports of a split, releasing a statement saying they are "committed" to their relationship.
Smith told the News of the World: "It's not necessarily easy. With us both working ridiculous hours, often in different parts of the world, you find yourself at home alone with the child.
"And it's not the perfect world you'd like it to be, with both parents helping out. It's for no other reason than work. But it can push you apart."
A friend of the couple's also told the newspaper: "They're putting on a brave face because they really want to work through their troubles. But their issues are not yet fully resolved."
