Radio DJ Chris Evans fought back tears as he talked about his ex-wife Billie Piper at the Hay Festival.
The 45-year-old presenter was questioned by Anne Robinson at the sold-out event.
Speaking of the connection they had when they met in 2000, Evans said: “We both needed fixing and thought we could each fix each other.”
Evans fought back tears when he said: “We were totally in love and we were together for all the right reasons.”
“But to go back to the metaphor of fixing each other. We were fixed, where do you go from there?
“It was not inevitable but it was obvious when it happened and the greatest disservice we could have done for each other was carry on.”
The pair divorced in 2007 and Evans is now happily married to Natasha Shishmanian.
Chris and Anne were discussing his latest autobiography ‘Memoirs of a Fruitcake’.
