Irish pop twins Jedward have reportedly turned down an invite from President Mary McAleese to attend a special party in Áras an Uachtaráin, in their honour.

According to The Star, the pair (19) were asked to come to the Áras in the Phoenix Park, to meet the President on July 9th.

However, due to a busy work schedule, the boys have had to turn her down.

A source told the newspaper: "She wanted to host a garden party in their honour for being good ambassadors for Ireland - probably because of their performance at the Eurovision and for the Obama’s."

"They have four or five appearances on TV shows in Sweden that day, and the Áras didn’t offer an alternative day."

The twins yesterday tweeted: "How do we run for President?"
