Rihanna has attempted to play down an altercation with a male fan during an out-door concert in New York last week.

The 23-year-old pop princess was on hand to kick off 'The Today Show’s' summer concert series with a powerhouse performance of her songs S&M, Only Girl (in the World) and her latest single, California King Bed.

On her way to the stage a member of the crowd grabbed her and pulled her into specially erected metal barriers.
The 23-year-old was quickly released, unharmed, from the man's grip by her accompanying dancers and escorted to the main stage outside the city's iconic Rockefeller Centre.

The star appeared to recover quickly bouncing around on stage in high-waisted navy shorts with fishnet tights and a cropped blue striped shirt.

The singer wore high waisted pants with a gold belt and a cropped striped shirt

She later took to Twitter to joke about the incident. When asked by a follower what was going through her mind during the on-air clash, Rihanna replied: "sumn like 'THIS muhf**ka better not f**k up my weave'" (sic).

Rihanna channeled a sexy sailor girl as she danced her way through the performance.

Just this week it was announced that the star has received four BET Award nominations including a nod for Best R & B Artist.
The results will be announced at the live Awards Show on June 26th.
