New 'Coronation Street' star Michelle Collins has said that part of the reason she signed up for the ITV soap was so she could fund her daughter Maia Rose's education.

The Sun reports that Collins, who plays new Rovers Return boss Stella, said: "It is quite nice to have a bit of security in my life because my daughter is 14 and will be off to uni - so she will be able to go now."

The ex-'EastEnders' star said of her new job: "I am just very happy to be in 'Coronation Street', it is the only other soap I would want to be in.

"I've only been there three weeks - but hopefully I'll like them and they will like me."
