Irish hopes dashed at the BAFTAs

'Sherlock' was among the big winners at the TV BAFTAs in the UK last night, but there was disappointment for 'Mrs Brown's Boys' and Irish actor Robert Sheehan.

'Sherlock' took the award for Best Drama Series, with star Martin Freeman winning Best Supporting Actor.

Sheehan had been nominated in that category for his work on 'Misfits'. His co-star, Lauren Socha, won Best Supporting Actress.

'Mrs Brown's Boys', which had been nominated for Best Situation Comedy, lost out to 'Rev'.

The award for Best Leading Actor went to Daniel Rigby for 'Eric and Ernie', with Vicky McClure winning Best Leading Actress for 'This Is England '86'.

'EastEnders' won the award for Best Continuing Drama, with 'The Road to Coronation Street' named Best Single Drama and 'Any Human Heart' winning Best Drama Serial.

Graham Norton won the Best Entertainment Performance award for 'The Graham Norton Show', while 'The Cube' was named Best Entertainment Programme.

The YouTube Audience Award went to 'The Only Way Is Essex'.

In the comedy categories, there were acting awards for Jo Brand ('Getting On') and Steve Coogan ('The Trip'), while 'Harry and Paul' was named Best Comedy Programme.

The International Award went to 'The Killing', with 'Welcome to Lagos' winning Best Factual Series.
