Former 'Coronation Street' actor John Savident has hit out at what he sees as a lack of ambition among some of the young stars of the ITV soap.
The Mirror reports that Savident, who played butcher Fred Elliott for 12 years, rarely watches the show now.
He said: "Some of the young people just want to be on screen and have no ambition to act elsewhere. What future do they have when their contract ends? One of them asked me who this Laurence Olivier I was talking about was, as he'd never heard of him!"
Savident also voiced his dissatisfaction with famous stars making guest appearances in the soap, as he claims they are denying struggling actors an opportunity.
"I took Sir Ian McKellen to task by asking how he could be in Corrie while some poor actor who needed the work lost out. He didn't reply - just hung his head," he said.
