Singer Seán Dunphy, the Dublin showband legend who came second for Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1967, has died. He was 73.

The Irish Independent reports that he passed away in his sleep at his home on Dublin's Northside.

He gave his final performance at the opening of Arts Week in St Michael's House in Baldoyle just 24 hours before his passing.

His son Brian, a member of the High Kings, told the Irish Independent: "Dad was doing what he loved right up until the end. He was a loving father who would do anything for you."

Seán Dunphy sang one of Ireland's favourite Eurovision songs, 'If I Could Choose', at the 1967 Contest.
