Maria Bello will play the Helen Mirren role in the US makeover of Prime Suspect, with Ireland's own Aidan Quinn as her co-star. She may be nothing like the Dame but Bello will play the tough-talking detective in the NBC version which plays out on the mean streets of New York.
The series, which is scheduled to debut in the US this Autumn, sees Bella as Jane Timoney (Mirren’s cop was called Jane Tennison) and the screenplay comes from the writer behind such top-drawer dramas as NYPD Blue and Desperate Housewives.
