Driver 'doing well' says Corrie co-star

'Coronation Street' actress Julie Hesmondhalgh has tweeted that her co-star Betty Driver is "doing well" following news that she was admitted to hospital with suspected pneumonia.

Hedmondhalgh, who plays longstanding character Hayley Cropper on the soap, tweeted: “Betty is, according to my sources, doing well. I'm sure she's feeling the love! Xxx”

A spokesperson for the soap confirmed that Driver was taken to hospital today and wished her a "speedy recovery".

Other 'Coronation Street' stars have offered their well-wishes on Twitter.

Kym Marsh wrote: “Oh no!!! Just heard about Betty driver! I am so hoping she gets well! She is a legend and I love her to bits x. Come on Betty u can do it x”

Newcomer Chris Foundain also tweeted his support, saying: "Get well soon, Betty Driver!”

Driver, who has played barmaid Betty Williams on the soap since 1969, turns 91 on 20 May. She was due to shoot scenes this week which have now been rewritten.
