Adele Adkins’ ex has requested a cut of her royalties as a reward for inspiring the lyrics that featured on her album ‘19’.

Speaking about her ex boyfriend, whom she has chosen not to name, the singer said: "For about a week he was calling and was deadly serious about it.

"Finally, I said, 'Well, you made my life hell, so I lived it and now I deserve it.'"

In the interview with The Sun, she added: "He really thought he'd had some input into the creative process..I'll give him this credit - he made me an adult and put me on the road that I'm travelling."

‘19’ is No3 in the album charts, having rocketed following the success of her latest release ‘21’, which has been No1 for 14 weeks.

Both albums are riding high in the States too with ‘21’ at No1, ‘19’ at No20.

However the singer revealed that she’s not a fan of her own music genre: "I'm a huge fan of pop music. I love it. I don't listen to music like my own.

"I just seem to click with the acoustic, honest and moving music.

"Katy Perry, Rihanna, Britney Spears and Kylie are all great girls and delivering top music.

"It's just that I'm not the right fit to perform like that so I'm going down my own path."
