Emmerdale star Frank Kelly has announced that he will be leaving the show to concentrate on opportunities at home in Ireland.

The Irish actor, who famously starred as Fr. Jack in the Father Ted series, currently plays the role of Dermot Macey in the show. Kelly landed the role last Autumn and has appeared on screen since last December.

However, speaking on the Emmerdale web site, the star said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Emmerdale and working within such a supportive and happy team, but travelling to Leeds each week from my home in Ireland has meant that work opportunities closer to home have proven too appealing to turn down."

Emmerdale's series producer Stuart Blackburn added: "Frank has been an asset to the cast and we wish him all the best for the future."
