Auditions for the first ever season of the X-Factor USA continued in Chicago this week with thousands of hopefuls braving the rain, in the hopes of becoming the next big singing sensation.

The auditionees at the Sears Centre Arena were the latest stop on the Fox shows preliminary open auditions stage, with Fox 6 estimating that around 10,000 people queued outside the venue.

The show has already paid a visit to LA, Miami, Seattle and Newark on its quest to find America's next superstar.

Auditions are open to all singers and groups from the age of 12 upwards. A further open audition will be held at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas on May 26.

Aspiring singers who are unable to make the remaining audition in Dallas have until April 30 to submit their video audition through a MyStudio recording booth at several cities across the US. Booths are currently in operation in Honolulu, Phoenix, Nashville, Anchorage, Kansas City and Denver.

The winner of The X Factor, which will premiere on Fox later this year, will receive a $5 million recording contract with Sony Recordings/Syco.
