Future Princess Kate Middleton will spend two years being eased into public life to spare her the pressures that Diana faced.
Prince William has asked for a delay so that his wife can become accustomed to a hectic schedule of public engagements.
The Sunday Times says: "Prince William and Catherine will follow the model of the Queen's marriage to Prince Philip.
"They have had a strong relationship and William is keen to cement his marriage before the public role takes over."
Kate and William will carry out two appearances in the month after their honeymoon.
Speaking of his honeymoon last month, William hinted that they could visit Australia: "I love scuba diving. I have always wanted to dive the [Great] Barrier Reef," he said.
"I will have to come back - maybe we'll have a honeymoon in Cairns?"
