'Sex and the City' star Kim Cattrall has revealed that she wants to embrace ageing and refuses to have plastic surgery.

Cattrall admires actresses like Judi Dench, 76 and Annette Bening, 52, who have a successful career without feeling the need to go under the surgeon's knife.

The 54-year-old, who played man-eater Samantha in the TV series, said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times: "I look at people like Judi Dench, who's in her 70s and I think 'What the hell am I frightened of?'"

"In my life and career I want to embrace ageing because I think that's what's interesting.

"I think a forehead without any lines doesn't tell me they've lived a life."

The star has previously admitted to using Botox on her forehead and said at the time in 2008: "I don't want to look in the mirror and not recognise who's looking back."

The actress is stripped bare of make-up and her designer clothes for her latest film as an ageing adult film star.

She plays a fiftysomething porn star called Monica Velour in 'Meet Monica Velour' who becomes the object of obsession of a young fan.

Liverpool born Cattrall said she wasn't sure she could play the part of a woman living in a trailer park after being associated with such a glamorous character as Samantha.

She added: "I didn't know whether I could do it, because to be that stripped of makeup, clothes, shoes, in Hollywood, you have to be beautiful. You have to be desirable.

"And that's why so many woman of my age or even younger are pushed to Botox and plastic surgery, all the things that people say, 'Why do women do this?' Where do you go in your 50s in your career?"

Cattrall doesn't judge those who want cosmetic help: "I think it's every woman's choice, not just every actor's" she said.

"And I have no judgement about it. It's your body, your life. Do what you want to do."
