It has been confirmed that the director of the Broadway production of ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark’ will be leaving day-to-day duties on the show.
The troubled show was co-written by Bono and The Edge.
Entertainment Weekly reports that producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J Harris announced yesterday that Julie Taymore will be leaving the $65 million production. Significant revisions are now planned and the opening night has been pushed back from March 15 until the early summer.
The producers said "Julie’s previous commitments mean that past March 15, she cannot work the 24/7 [schedule] necessary to make the changes in the production in order to be ready for our opening." They added however that Taymor "is not leaving the creative team."
Director Philip William McKinley (The Boy From Oz) has stepped in and Bono and The Edge have announced that they are writing a couple of new songs for the production.
Preview shows are continuing on Broadway.
