Shepherd - Character David to wind everyone up yet again

'Coronation Street' star Jack P Shepherd has said that fans will see a "match made in hell" when his character, David Platt, gets together with Kylie Turner (Paula Lane).

Warning: spoiler alert!

The two troublemakers will become engaged - by text - after a holiday romance in a new storyline.

In an interview with Holy Soap, Shepherd spoke of how romance will blossom between the pair.

He said: "Gail (Helen Worth) mentions that David's in Tenerife and when he comes back from Tenerife, he announces that he's met this girl out there called Candy. She's a cage dancer in one of the nightclubs in Tenerife; so, classic!

"Gail and Audrey (Sue Nicholls) are not too bothered about it, they just think, 'Oh, he's just had a holiday romance', but then he announces that this Candy is coming to stay with them for a few days at the end of the week and they're like, 'What?! What are you talking about?'

"She then rocks up on the Friday and it's Becky's (Katherine Kelly) sister Kylie. So Candy comes into the Platts' and it's all shock horror, 'You're Becky McDonald's sister, you're a tart, I don't want you hanging around my son, I know her type...' and all this.

"So we have a bit of a fall out with Gail and we march off to the pub. Becky sees Kylie and gives her the same kind of reception really and nobody's really that happy or pleased that we're together really. I think even Graeme (Craig Gazey) and Tina (Michelle Keegan) are a bit shocked that it's Kylie, but I think both of us don't really care - as long as we love each other, we're not really bothered."

Shepherd told Holy Soap that the storyline did not "come as much of a surprise" to him because "both of them are similar characters, just [the] opposite sex".

"They'll do anything to shock people, always scheming some sort of little plan to blackmail someone or something like that. It's a perfect match," he said.

As for the engagement, Shepherd said: "They get engaged to each other by text. David sends her a text and she says yes and comes over. So he gets her a ring and everything's great.

"Gail and Audrey obviously don't approve and Audrey tries to calm Gail down by saying, 'It's a phase and he'll grow out of it' and 'The more you bang on at him not to marry her, the more he'll want to marry her just to show that he can' and to prove her wrong.

"So at the minute they're engaged and it's going towards a wedding but whether or not that'll happen, we'll have to wait and see."
